Driving down the Silverado Trail has more than just the benefit of less traffic, it also has some great choices for vineyard tastings, tours and experiences. ZD Wines is just such an example of a great wine tasting and tour experience. For Ten dollars you can taste about five wines that this Certified Organic vineyard produces, bottles, and sells on site. They claim to be known for their Chardonnays and offer a very palate pleasing one at that, especially if you're not into a strong oak or buttery flavor. They are also one of the only cold fermenting vineyards placing some of their barrels in a refrigerated storage cellar. But what is great about ZD other than their Reserve Cabernet, is that you can take a personal tour by appointment with one of their employees. The tour is about half an hour long and takes you to their personal cellar where they have cataloged their entire collection from start to finish. After this you are taken through the process starting at the vine and ending at the bottling room. A barrel tasting is included and if you're lucky it will be one that isn't yet on the market. The fee for the tour is only $5.00 pp and is one of the better tours that Napa Valley has to offer.

A Great Day in Napa - March 11, 2009

Amazing

Lunch at Rutherford Grill (Sashimi Salad or Tri Tip Sandwich) followed by a visit to ZD's tasting room is always a great treat when I get a chance to visit Napa Valley. I like all of their wines but the Chardonnay is a personal favorite. They usually have something I have not tried before last time it was a Petit Syrah that they only sell in the tasting room. Bubbles at Mumm to follow are a great way to finish the afternoon.

ZD Winery - July 23, 2009

Amazing

ZD was named for its two co-founders, but the winery often refers to it as meaning "Zero Defects." This describes this experience perfectly! Although the tour and tasting cost a bit more than the previous reviewer posted, it was well worth it! My husband and I got a personal tour with one of the workers, who was very knowledgeable and was very willing to answer any questions we had. We were able to taste wine from the barrel and learn about their process. It was delicious wine and a very informative trip. One of the best places we've been this trip!!
