the atmosphere is very stuffy and the wine isn't worth the incredibly high price tag of the tasting.

I completely disagree with the reviewer who says the atmosphere is stuffy. I pulled up on a bike, sweaty and dirty and was given a lovely reception. I receieved an informative but inviting tour that described the different microclimates on this fascinating piece of land and the biodynamic process that Quintessa uses, which -- whether you believe in biodynamic ag or not -- is somewhat rare and thus interesting to think about. The winery has unique and charming architecture, and the tasting was delicious. Quintessa wines are unquestionably at a premium price, but if you don't want to pay that much for your wine, you don't have to buy it! For those who are willing to pay the price or have a special occasion for which they will save the bottle (as I did) I can vouch that the cab stands up well to the aging process and is quite rewarding.

Wow, for someone to call the atmosphere at Quintessa "stuffy" they need to go to some other premium wineries and REALLY understand the meaning of that word!!! I'm a wine enthusiast and visit the California wine country a few times a year and Quintessa is one that I repeat every time I'm in North Napa valley. Find difficult to beat the views, the caliber of the hosts who are very casual and knowledgeable, very contemporary and comfortable tasting room, and the Wine... Very few wineries in the New World are able to produce such a consistent quality product like Quintessa. Beautiful Bordeaux blend with that Rutherford "dust", delicious!
