Description

Paraduxx is unique with regards to their style of wines found in Napa Valley. While sister winery Duckhorn focuses on Bordeaux style wines, Paraduxx has stated on their website, "Paraduxx's goal is to craft a world-class blend with a distinctly Californian personality by using Zinfandel, a grape synonymous with California, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon."

To set the record straight, Paraduxx, pronounced "pair-a-ducks" or "paradox", is both a play on words and also a great description of their uncommon blends.

Grounds

Much like its sister winery Duckhorn, Paraduxx is obviously designed around the visitor experience. Unlike Duckhorn, which has a classic touch, Paraduxx is very contemporary with its seating, outdoor couches, and stemless Riedel 'O' glassware. Often referred to as one of the more romantic wineries in Napa Valley, Paraduxx was designed as a prefect place to enjoy the outdoors with outdoor seating and ample grass to sprawl out on.

Tasting Room

Besides the lack of merchandise, the large amount of seating strikes you upon entering the tasting room. Following the owners philosophy that the only time to drink wine standing up is while cooking, tasting in not allowed at the bar. Instead hosts bring trays with 5 wines and two cheeses on a platter to you after you have chosen a seat.

During the summer, most people will probably be outside sprawled on couches, the grass, or along the walls. Our hosts pointed out that during the summer their biggest issue is visitors enjoying the outdoor atmosphere too much and never leaving! Its easy to understand why with these beautiful surroundings.

Staff

We have visited a lot of wineries and talked to a lot of winery hosts, but Paraduxx's hosts were by far the most knowledgeable and passionate about their wines and their winery. We came away with a good understanding of Paraduxx wines and a good deal of excitement instilled from our hosts.

Events

Every Sunday Paraduxx has a component/blending seminar at 11:30. While it is not a traditional blending seminar (each component is tasted separately), there are plans to change it.

Wines

All wines are presented at ounce in stemless Riedel 'O' glassware. Each is a blend of several different wines.

  • 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine : 63% Zinfandel 33% Cabernet Sauvingon 2% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc
  • 2004 Napa Valley Red Wine : 65% Zinfandel 28% Cabernet Sauvingon 7% Merlot
  • 2005 Napa Valley Red Wine : 60% Zinfandel 32% Cabernet Sauvingon 6% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc
  • 2005 Postmark : 53% Zinfandel 26% Cabernet Sauvingon 15% Cabernet Franc 6% Merlot

Relaxing and Friendly atmosphere! - Oct. 16, 2008

Amazing

My husband, our friend and I stopped in to Paraduxx based on a recommendation. Not only was the staff unbelievably friendly, but upon hearing our friend getting married that night, we were given star treatment! We didn't pay for our tasting and they gave him a gift of a bottle of Rose for the honeymoon to boot! Anyone who likes to just chill outside, under the trees with a good bottle of wine will love this place. They have music playing outside and comfy couches to sit on. I would definitely recommend this winery to anyone looking to relax and have some very good wine!

Incredible! - Feb. 5, 2009

Amazing

My husband and I made Paraduxx our first stop on our Napa tour and were delighted that we did! Every other winery was challenged to live up to the quality and friendliness we experienced there. We were greeted at the door and invited to the seating area outside to enjoy a beautiful view and a lovely day. Damian, our host, was proud to describe each variety and instructed us on the vertical tasting of their red blends. He then gave us an idea of where the other two varieties were grown (one of which is exclusively on the winery's property) and what to look and taste for in each. He gave great food pairing suggestions, then left us to enjoy. After time to form our own opinions, Damian invited us to stroll with him on the property and informed us further on the winemaking process. We felt valued and comfortable at Paraduxx and recommend them highly! By the way, though we bought a few bottles of their wines, we were neither pressured nor expected to do so. An added bonus!

Amazing Reds - July 6, 2010

Amazing

Paraduxx wines are so good. They only make reds and they are all killer. Splurge for the $30 per person wine and cheese tasting (by appointment only).
