Description
Paraduxx is unique with regards to their style of wines found in Napa Valley. While sister winery Duckhorn focuses on Bordeaux style wines, Paraduxx has stated on their website, "Paraduxx's goal is to craft a world-class blend with a distinctly Californian personality by using Zinfandel, a grape synonymous with California, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon."
To set the record straight, Paraduxx, pronounced "pair-a-ducks" or "paradox", is both a play on words and also a great description of their uncommon blends.
Grounds
Much like its sister winery Duckhorn, Paraduxx is obviously designed around the visitor experience. Unlike Duckhorn, which has a classic touch, Paraduxx is very contemporary with its seating, outdoor couches, and stemless Riedel 'O' glassware. Often referred to as one of the more romantic wineries in Napa Valley, Paraduxx was designed as a prefect place to enjoy the outdoors with outdoor seating and ample grass to sprawl out on.
Tasting Room
Besides the lack of merchandise, the large amount of seating strikes you upon entering the tasting room. Following the owners philosophy that the only time to drink wine standing up is while cooking, tasting in not allowed at the bar. Instead hosts bring trays with 5 wines and two cheeses on a platter to you after you have chosen a seat.
During the summer, most people will probably be outside sprawled on couches, the grass, or along the walls. Our hosts pointed out that during the summer their biggest issue is visitors enjoying the outdoor atmosphere too much and never leaving! Its easy to understand why with these beautiful surroundings.
Staff
We have visited a lot of wineries and talked to a lot of winery hosts, but Paraduxx's hosts were by far the most knowledgeable and passionate about their wines and their winery. We came away with a good understanding of Paraduxx wines and a good deal of excitement instilled from our hosts.
Events
Every Sunday Paraduxx has a component/blending seminar at 11:30. While it is not a traditional blending seminar (each component is tasted separately), there are plans to change it.
