Off the path of the Silverado Trail, Clos Pegase is certainly a vineyard with a story worth stopping for. If you're into the romantic sentiments that so many seek when visiting the Napa valley each year then Clos Pegase is for you. This is a vineyard that was built out of the love between the owner and the love of his wife. The grounds are filled with the couples extensive sculpture collection. Each acquisition has a special importance and meaning to the owners and their love for each other, art and wine. The grounds are beautiful and if you want to take a picnic here there are tables next to a gorgeous ancient Italian fountain that was a gift from the owner's wife on his birthday. If you take the tour you can learn the history behind the majority of the pieces but if you're just there for the tasting be sure to ask questions about the art. The tour is free and last about 45 minutes. The best part of this tour is definitely the wine caves that go into the hills directly behind the vineyard. The caves are very large and at the back one of the sections can be rented for different events. The tasting is nice and you certainly learn a great deal about the wine and the vineyard. If you can try the port or at least inquire about it, they claim that it is in a world all to its own, which may also be a great representation of some of the Clos Pegase employees.
