We loved the Cakebread winery. It was one of our favorites. They offered a one on one tasting and were so informative. The wine is fabulous too!

my wife and i were brought to cakebread vineyards by our friend, victor. jeff and jim, the "Educators" who were manning the tasting table, gave us a comprehensive education on the different kinds of wine, how to choose which wine to take with a particular food, and how the different species of grapes and their secret wine-making processes affected the taste of the different wines. even the use of natural vs. plastic corks was taken up, as well as the use of oak barrels.
definitely not something you can learn by reading books (or the internet). i strongly recommend you go.

I would rate this the very best winery that I visted while in Napa Valley. It is a must for anyone visting the area. Great people and great wine.
